ShopMenstrual Swimwear FAQ
When can you wear a period swimsuit?
A period swimsuit is designed, just like the period underwear, to absorb your menstrual flow. You can wear it during your period while swimming at the pool or in the ocean.
The period swimsuit is a healthier alternative to disposable tampons, which are polluting and have questionable ingredients. Having your period during vacation, at the pool, or at the beach is no longer a hassle!
The Louloucup period swimsuit can also be worn for spotting, unexpected bleeding in early pregnancy, or even light bladder leaks. The period swimsuit is also very convenient for managing irregular periods.
Where are our period swimwear made?
80% of our products are made in Portugal or France. However, some more technical fabrics require specialized expertise. Our two models of period swimwear (the Noa and the Laura), are made in China. The workshop where they are produced is regularly audited.
This workshop is ISO 9001 and BSCI certified. It also works to limit plastic production. In addition, the fabrics are approved by the FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration). They contain no harmful substances or toxic residues.
How does a period swimsuit work?
Louloucup swimsuits absorb period blood without leaks thanks to a hygienic protection specially designed for use in water.
The absorbent part, the pad, remains thin, discreet, and invisible even when in contact with water. It does not swell. The pad, which extends from the front to the back, is made up of a breathable layer that touches your skin and draws in blood while staying dry. A second layer absorbs and holds it. This layer has an impressive absorption capacity without swelling or leaking. Once the blood is absorbed, it doesn’t escape. A final waterproof layer blocks both blood and water to ensure there are no leaks. This way, women can swim without worry and with complete peace of mind!
Which period swimwear should I choose?
Louloucup has developed two types of period swimwear. Both of these period swimsuits were designed to appeal to as many people as possible.
Do you like two-piece styles? Go for the cute Laura period swim bottom. Its black color, high waist, and back lacing are little details that will go perfectly with your favorite colorful or printed bikini tops. The Laura style is available from XS to XXL.
Do you prefer the elegance of a one-piece? Choose the classic and timeless Noa one-piece. Its neckline and built-in bra flatter your figure. This style is available from XS to XL.
Both Louloucup styles have an absorbency equivalent to two tampons. They’re ideal for managing a light to medium flow.
What is the best brand of period swimwear?
With our wide range of period swimsuits, both one-piece and two-piece, Louloucup stands out as one of the top brands of menstrual swimwear on the market. Just like our period panties, we've designed swimsuits that are both elegant and feminine, as well as highly reliable and absorbent.
Plus, our swimsuits can be purchased in bundles with our period panties for a lower price! A smart and economical purchase, unique on the menstrual underwear market. Loulou swimsuits are reliable, absorbent, waterproof, invisible, affordable—in short, they're incredibly effective at absorbing period blood at the best price.
What flow levels are Louloucup period swimsuits suitable for?
Louloucup menstrual swimsuits (Noa and Laura models) are designed to handle a light or medium flow. Women with a heavy flow can still wear these period swimsuits at the beginning or end of their cycle when their flow is lighter.
We would like to remind you that the Noa and Laura models have an absorption capacity equivalent to two sanitary tampons.
How do you care for a period swimsuit?
Just like with the Louloucup period panties, you need to take care of your period swimsuit to extend its lifespan. Avoid washing at high temperatures, using fabric softeners, or any other harsh or chemical products. After wearing, rinse with cold, clear water. A short machine wash at 86°F (30°C) is ideal. Finally, air drying is best.
What tips should you follow when wearing a period swimsuit?
Depending on your flow, you can wear your Louloucup swimsuit for a few hours or all day. However, don’t keep a wet swimsuit on for too long. This advice applies to both regular and period swimsuits. Wearing wet clothing in contact with the vaginal flora creates an environment conducive to yeast infections or UTIs.
Where can I find menstrual swimwear?
On the Louloucup shop, of course! French brand of quality menstrual products that are washable and durable—discover the range of Louloucup absorbent and reliable period swimsuits. A lovely, varied collection of stylish one-piece swimsuits and bikini bottoms available (depending on the model) from size XXS to XXL.
How do you wash a menstrual swimsuit?
Like any absorbent menstrual product, the period swimsuit requires special care: rinse with clean water, wash with a gentle detergent, and air dry. Be gentle and careful. Use an organic or delicate laundry detergent. Always select a short wash cycle on your machine, ideally at 30°C (86°F). Finally, let your swimsuit dry naturally, away from heat sources. No tumble dryers or radiators! As you can see, caring for your swimsuit is just like caring for your period panties.
Are menstrual swimsuits effective?
Yes, menstrual swimsuits and period swim bottoms really do work. It can be surprising to see an undergarment full of blood not leak in water, but it’s possible! Thanks to technical fabrics, period swim bottoms absorb your menstrual flow (light to medium), lock it in, and trap it in their high-absorption membrane without leaking!
Can you swim with period swimwear?
Yes, absolutely! Thanks to its absorbent membrane hidden in the lining, your period is contained in the period swimsuit with no leaks. Absorbent on the inside and waterproof on the outside, the period swimwear really gets the job done! You can go to the pool during your period without worrying about leaks! Swim, sunbathe on your towel, or play on the beach stress-free! Whether you’re at the pool in chlorinated water, at the beach, in the ocean, or in a lake, period swimwear is your best friend for all your water activities. It’s also a great alternative to disposable tampons.
Can you wear a period swimsuit on its own or with a cup?
If you have a light or medium flow, if you’re at the very beginning of your period (with a light flow) or at the very end (almost finished with just a few spots), you can put on your favorite period bikini bottom and enjoy yourself without worrying about leaks. You don’t need any extra protection. However, if you have a heavy or very heavy flow, we recommend wearing another period product of your choice along with your absorbent swimsuit. At Louloucup, we highly recommend pairing the period swimsuit with a menstrual cup. It’s the perfect combo for a worry-free swim! Check out our range of menstrual cups for all body types. Also, all our period products are eligible for custom bundles. The more you buy, the lower the price per product. It’s the perfect chance to treat yourself and complete your period care routine with quality products!
