ShopMenstrual swimwear FAQ
When can you wear period swimwear?
A period swimsuit is designed, just like the period underwear, to absorb your menstrual flow. You can wear it during your period while swimming at the pool or in the ocean.
The period swimsuit is a healthier alternative to disposable tampons, which are polluting and have questionable ingredients. Having your period during vacation, at the pool, or at the beach is no longer a hassle!
The Louloucup period swimsuit can also be worn for spotting, unexpected bleeding in early pregnancy, or even light bladder leaks. The period swimsuit is also very convenient for managing irregular periods.
Where are our period swimwear made?
80% of our products are made in Portugal or France. However, some of our more technical fabrics require highly specialized expertise. Our two menstrual swimsuits (the Noa and Laura styles) are made in China. The workshop where they are produced is audited regularly.
This workshop is ISO 9001 and BSCI certified. It also limits plastic production. In addition, the fabrics are approved by the FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration). They therefore contain no harmful substances or toxic residues.
How does a period swimsuit work?
Louloucup swimsuits absorb period blood without leaks thanks to a hygienic protection specially designed for use in water.
The absorbent part, the pad, remains thin, discreet, and invisible even when in contact with water. It does not swell. The pad, which extends from the front to the back, is made up of a breathable layer that touches your skin and draws in blood while staying dry. A second layer absorbs and holds it. This layer has an impressive absorption capacity without swelling or leaking. Once the blood is absorbed, it doesn’t escape. A final waterproof layer blocks both blood and water to ensure there are no leaks. This way, women can swim without worry and with complete peace of mind!
Which menstrual swimsuit should I choose?
Louloucup has created two styles of menstrual swimsuits. These two types of period swimwear were designed to appeal to as many people as possible.
Prefer two-piece styles? Go for the lovely Laura menstrual bikini bottom. Its black color, high waist and lace-up back are little details that will pair perfectly with your colorful or printed bikini tops. The Laura style is available from XS to XXL.
Love the elegance of one-piece swimsuits? Choose the classic, timeless Noa one-piece. Its neckline and built-in bra flatter the figure. This style is available from XS to XL.
Both Louloucup styles have an absorption capacity equivalent to two tampons. They’re ideal for managing a light to medium flow.
What is the best brand of period swimsuit?
With our wide range of one‑piece and two‑piece period swimsuits, Louloucup is one of the leading brands of menstrual swimwear on the market. Just like our period panties, our swimsuits are elegant, feminine, highly reliable and absorbent.
Plus, our swimsuits can be purchased in bundles with our period panties at a reduced price! A smart, budget‑friendly purchase, unique on the menstrual lingerie market. Loulou swimsuits are reliable, absorbent, waterproof, invisible and affordable—in other words, incredibly effective at absorbing period blood at the best price.
Louloucup menstrual swimsuits are suitable for which types of flow?
Louloucup period swimsuits (Noa and Laura styles) are designed to handle a light to medium flow. Women with a heavy flow can still wear these period swimsuits at the beginning or end of their cycle, when their flow is less intense.
Please note that both the Noa and Laura styles have an absorbency capacity equivalent to two regular tampons.
How do you care for a period swimsuit?
Just like with the Louloucup period panties, you need to take care of your period swimsuit to extend its lifespan. Avoid washing at high temperatures, using fabric softeners, or any other harsh or chemical products. After wearing, rinse with cold, clear water. A short machine wash at 86°F (30°C) is ideal. Finally, air drying is best.
What tips should you follow when wearing a period swimsuit?
Depending on your flow, you can wear your Louloucup swimsuit for a few hours or all day. However, don’t keep a wet swimsuit on for too long. This advice applies to both regular and period swimsuits. Wearing wet clothing in contact with the vaginal flora creates an environment conducive to yeast infections or UTIs.
Where can you find period swimwear?
On the Louloucup shop, of course! As a French brand of high-quality, washable and long-lasting period products, discover the Louloucup range of absorbent, reliable menstrual swimsuits. A lovely, varied collection of trendy one-piece swimsuits and bikini bottoms, available (depending on the style) from XXS to XXL.
How do you wash period swimwear?
Like any absorbent menstrual product, a period swimsuit needs special care: rinse in clear water, wash with a gentle detergent, air dry. Be gentle and delicate. Use an eco-friendly detergent or one suitable for delicates. Always choose a short wash cycle on your machine, ideally at 30°C. Finally, let your swimsuit dry naturally away from direct heat. No tumble dryer or radiator! As you’ve probably guessed, caring for your swimsuit is just like caring for a pair of period panties.
Are period swimsuits effective?
Yes, period swimsuits and bikini bottoms really do work. It may seem surprising to see underwear full of blood not leak in water, but it’s possible! Thanks to technical fabrics, the period bikini bottom absorbs your menstrual flow (light to medium), holds it and locks it into its high-absorption layer without leaking!
Yes, absolutely! Thanks to its absorbent membrane hidden in the lining, your period is absorbed by the swimsuit without leaking. Absorbent on the inside and waterproof on the outside, the menstrual swimsuit rises to the challenge! You can go to the pool on your period without worrying about leaks! Swim, sunbathe on your towel or play on the beach without stress! Whether it’s in a chlorinated pool, at the sea, in the ocean or in a lake, a menstrual swimsuit is your best ally for all your water activities. It’s also a great alternative to disposable tampons.
Can you wear a period swimsuit on its own or with a cup?
If you have a light or medium menstrual flow, if you’re at the very start of your period (when the flow is still light) or at the very end (when your period is almost over and you only have a few spots), you can slip on your favourite period bikini bottom and enjoy yourself without worrying about leaks. You don’t need to wear anything else to stay protected. However, if you have a heavy menstrual flow or very heavy flow, we recommend wearing another period product of your choice in addition to your absorbent swimsuit. At Louloucup, we naturally recommend pairing your period swimwear with a menstrual cup. It’s the perfect combo for a leak-free, stress-free swim session! Discover our range of menstrual cups designed for every body type. Finally, note that all our period products are eligible for our custom bundle offer. The more you buy, the lower the price per item. It’s the perfect opportunity to treat yourself and complete your period routine with high-quality products!
