Having a heavy menstrual flow or heavy periods can be annoying, uncomfortable, exhausting and stressful to deal with.

Yet it doesn’t have to be that way! The right period products can really help you cope better with this particular phase of your menstrual cycle.

And yes, choosing the right period protection matters – it’s essential. When your periods are intense and/or long, you need high‑quality protection that’s both comfortable and reliable, something you actually enjoy using and wearing, that feels good while still being effective.

Period panties—also called menstrual panties or washable, reusable period underwear—can, we’re certain at Louloucup, be a truly solid alternative to tampons and pads for all women and all teens who experience a heavy flow during their period.

Heavy or very heavy periods shouldn’t hold us back or stop us from doing certain tasks, working, going out, or playing sports. And heavy-flow period panties can really help you get through your period without mishaps or leaks!

One small thing before you order: you need to choose styles that match your menstrual flow, but also your expectations and your lifestyle. In this article, we show you that yes, you can absolutely wear period panties even with heavy periods, and not only that. You can wear them during the day or at night. You can wear them at work, at school or at home. In short, period panties become your best ally for taming those overly heavy periods!

Let’s talk about heavy flow and period underwear, a combination that just makes sense!

Heavy periods? They’re not inevitable!

Have your periods always been fairly heavy? Or have your periods clearly become heavier since giving birth? Or maybe you chose a copper IUD for contraception and since then your periods are really heavy?

Whatever the reason, you have heavy periods, a heavy menstrual flow.

Do you have to change your pads or tampons regularly to avoid discomfort? Do you often worry about leaks throughout the day?

You’ll quickly realise that once you’ve tried period underwear, you’ll never want to go back! Period panties are simply one less thing to worry about. A good pair of heavy‑flow period underwear can absorb fluid for a full day without needing to be changed.

No more need to go to the bathroom, no more wasting time, stressing, or fearing leaks. No more thinking about spare protection. You are serene, finally! Menstrual underwear with heavy periods is pure bliss.

Before placing an order, know how to recognize a heavy flow

Determining your menstrual flow isn’t easy. To help, you can read our article dedicated to this topic: How to know your menstrual flow. Let’s now talk more specifically about heavy menstrual flow. How can you recognise it?

Heavy flow, what is it exactly?

The first thing to do is determine whether your flow is truly heavy. A loss of 50 to 80 ml of blood per cycle is considered heavy.

We’re well aware that it’s not always easy to measure how much blood you lose during your period. However, you can rely on how often you change your tampon or pad. So, if you change it every two hours and your period lasts for 7 days with the presence of blood clots, it’s highly likely that you have a heavy flow.

Some signs don’t lie:

a maxi pad is completely and utterly saturated upon waking after a night's sleep (you're lucky if you don't have a stain on your pajama bottoms or sheets),

you often end up staining your sheets or your pyjamas,

pads that are too thin or regular just aren’t enough and become saturated very quickly,

tampons leak.

In everyday life, a heavy or very heavy flow can be annoying, exhausting or even disabling. Having to change your period product several times a day becomes a chore. You have to plan ahead, think about it and never forget spares in your bag.

That's why opting for menstrual panties greatly changes life. With a heavy flow period panty, there's no need to think about it or stress. You can go about your day forgetting your period.

Causes of a heavy flow

There can be many causes of heavy bleeding: endometriosis, postpartum, hormonal imbalance, etc. However, some women simply have naturally heavy periods. To be sure, you should make an appointment with a specialist and talk to them about your period. Your gynecologist or GP will be able to offer solutions and suggest additional tests to rule out certain conditions.

We talk about menorrhagia when your period lasts more than 7 days and is heavy. But what can actually cause a heavy flow?

  • The copper intrauterine device (IUD). Your copper IUD can cause heavy periods. That’s exactly why it’s not recommended for women who already have a heavy or hemorrhagic flow.
  • Benign tumors can make your periods heavier. Sometimes painful, they can also go unnoticed. That’s why a gynecological exam is necessary to rule out this possibility.
  • Adenomyosis (presence of endometrial tissue within the uterine muscle) can also cause heavy periods. Again, only an examination can determine whether you have it or not.
  • Endometriosis causes pelvic pain, heavy periods, fatigue, and anemia. More and more women are suffering from this disease today. If you experience these symptoms, talk to your doctor so they can refer you to the appropriate specialists.
  • A **hormonal imbalance** can also cause heavy bleeding during your period. A pill with the wrong dosage, a thyroid problem? This may be the cause of your irregularity.

However, as we explained earlier, some women have always had a heavy flow. It’s neither rare nor serious to have heavy bleeding during your period.
You should see a doctor if you notice a sudden change in flow intensity or if you have so-called hemorrhagic periods.

Heavy flow and comfort? That’s a big yes!

Period panties for heavy or very heavy flow

If there’s one thing **women** dream of, it’s **forgetting their period**. With menstrual panties, you’re protected **all day long** and, above all, you’re comfortable. No **dampness**, no **bad odor**, lots of **comfort** and **discretion**. Period panties have it all. They don’t show under clothing (they’re **invisible**), they’re very soft and very pleasant to wear (they’re made from very soft **organic cotton**). They’re also respectful of your intimate area and your health (thanks to a transparent and safe composition).
You’ll almost forget you’re going through that dreaded time of the month.

For women with a heavy flow, period panties are the most suitable reusable sanitary protection. No more changing protection every hour. From now on, thanks to your menstrual lingerie, you get long-lasting protection (up to 12 hours in a row).

With a quality period panty, you can get through a full day at work or school without worrying about changing. Stressed at the idea of wearing one panty for 12 hours straight? Always test it at home first, in peace. We’re sure you’ll be convinced by how practical and how pretty it is.
