Slowing down, listening to yourself, taking care of your body and mind—the period phase in a menstrual cycle can be all at once: intense, stressful, tiring, depressing, or even painful. A well-tailored menstrual routine based on your needs is essential to better navigate this very special time of the month and menstrual cycle.

What do we mean by a menstrual routine? While having your period is a completely natural phenomenon experienced by many women since time immemorial, certain habits and actions can help relieve menstrual symptoms, making you feel better in your skin and your woman’s body.

Good intimate hygiene, a short workout, and good, long-lasting period protection (organic cotton period underwear with certified cotton) can make a real difference.

Menstrual routine: a few tips to help prevent pain

A successful menstrual routine comes down to a few easy habits. The priority: avoiding pain and knowing how to manage it. To do that, various tips, tricks and tools can help you rise to the challenge. We’ll share a few ideas here—it’s up to you to explore and, of course, to test them.

Hot water bottle

This is our absolute must-have! A hot water bottle works little miracles when menstrual pain becomes particularly sharp and intense!

  • These days, many shops and stores sell the classic hot water bottles (the most common and best known). They give off intense, deeply relaxing heat. Wrapped in a fleece or fluffy cover, they often have a cosy, cocooning look. The downside? Handling very hot water can be dangerous.

  • To avoid any unfortunate accidents, you can always turn to dry heat packs. They come in different shapes and materials. They’re filled with wheat grains, rice, or cherry pits. Just pop them in the microwave for a few minutes and you’re all set!

  • Finally, there are also electric heat packs which have the advantage of being cordless. Once charged, you can turn it on whenever you want. They require no handling or preparation time.

DID YOU KNOW?

Heat relaxes the muscles in the pelvic area, which are contracted. A hot water bottle placed on the lower belly or even sometimes on the back is a great ally for all teenagers and women who experience moderate to intense menstrual pain. The warmth helps relax and “numb” the cramps. It feels really good.

Which Jade style will you fall for?

The Jade very heavy flow menstrual brief made from 95% organic cotton is available in our three flagship ranges:

  • the classic women’s range for heavy and very heavy flow, from XS to 3XL;
  • the teen range in XXS;
  • and the plus-size range from 2XL to 4XL.

It’s truly the feminine, soft, and reliable model we love to wear at home, all day or all night, to feel calm and at ease.

The Jade model is a favorite among our customers. Designed for very heavy menstrual flow, the Jade menstrual brief is made from 95% organic GOTS cotton and features a wider gusset than other models to prevent any possible leaks

A relaxing herbal tea

A hot drink, ideally a herbal infusion with relaxing properties (like chamomile), helps you better get through those difficult hours or days of bleeding.

Avoid energy drinks with caffeine and theine, which are not recommended. The goal is to calm down and relax without further straining already tense muscles.

In organic stores or pharmacies, you can easily find special menstrual blends made from chamomile, raspberry leaves, valerian, or sage. You can also choose your favorite infusion—the goal is to treat and comfort yourself.

An oil to soothe pain

Finally, to combat the most intense menstrual pain, contractions, and cramps, a vegetable oil for massaging the lower abdomen is ideal. Mix a few drops of essential oil into your favorite carrier oil yourself. Otherwise, you can always find ready-made solutions online or at the pharmacy!

  • Essential oils of ylang-ylang, fine lavender and tarragon are among the most commonly used against period pain. (Be careful: using essential oils is not trivial. Always ask a pharmacist for help and advice if you’re unsure).

  • You can mix them with borage vegetable oil, known for its properties in supporting hormonal balance. Borage is a small purple flower. You can massage with this oil, but also consume the plant as an infusion or in capsule form.

  • Another option, evening primrose oil is known to soothe uterine pain. However, it is not recommended for people with epilepsy.

Meditation and gentle exercise during your period

During your period, your body sheds the endometrium. You bleed for several days. It’s important to slow down and, above all, to listen to yourself. Take these few days to breathe and really tune in to your body. Pilates, yoga, meditation—give yourself some time just for you, to reconnect. It will do you a world of good!

Taking time for yourself, slowing down, breathing, meditating during your period—it’s important to be patient with your body and to pamper it.

We’ve already talked to you about the benefits of exercise during your period.

Physical activity releases endorphins, which reduce pain and also help you feel good in your body and your skin.

However, doing sport is sometimes really impossible for some women. Very heavy periods (among other things) can leave the body exhausted.

  • Meditation in all its forms (breathing exercises, sophrology exercises, etc.) helps you relax, de-stress and release tension.
  • Gentle yoga or beginner Pilates are also excellent options to get your body moving a little and chase away negativity.

In short. Our final tips for a successful menstrual routine

As you’ve probably gathered, adopting a gentle self-care routine during your period is the best way to look after yourself.

Okay, having your period comes every month and isn’t an exceptional event. Yet, it’s far from trivial! Your body expels the endometrium built up during the previous menstrual cycle. Being attentive to what’s happening, recognizing the signs, and observing your body is essential.

Tools, information, exercise, nutrition, good protection—there are many things to put in place so you feel good, fulfilled, and confident during these few somewhat special days.

Some periods can be completely painless and go almost unnoticed—and that’s great! But if that’s not the case, it’s always helpful to have a few tips and tricks to make them easier to handle.

Thanks to our custom bundle with sliding-scale prices, you can kit yourself out exactly as you like with high-quality, beautiful, washable period protection.
